Note: Because wild Fushen grows naturally, the pine roots enclosed within it vary randomly in size. Unlike cultivated Fushen, the enclosed pine roots in cultivated products are generally uniform and about the size of a finger. Fushen is a natural form of the sclerotium of a fungus in the Polyporaceae family, formed when it naturally encloses a pine root. Only this form is called “Fushen.” It is a common ingredient for nourishing soups and also an excellent herb for calming the mind and soothing the spirit.
According to ancient texts, Fushen has a sweet, mild flavor and neutral properties, and enters the heart, spleen, liver, and kidney meridians. It is believed to have calming, mind-soothing, spirit-settling, and will-stabilizing effects; help stabilize emotions, improve sleep, promote urination, reduce swelling, and dispel dampness.It may be used for heart deficiency with palpitations, forgetfulness, insomnia with excessive dreaming, night sweats, convulsions, epilepsy, dizziness, wind deficiency, overexertion, dry mouth, difficulty urinating, menopausal symptoms, physical weakness, memory decline, and more.
Tips
Soak in warm water to remove the skin: Because Fushen is very hard and dry, soak it in warm water for 30 to 60 minutes until softened before processing. The pine root in the center of Fushen, also called Fushen wood, is considered the essence of Fushen and has a beneficial calming effect. It does not need to be removed.
Nourish the blood and heart; benefit the liver and calm the spirit: Slice and blanch 1 pig heart, then add 20g Fushen, 15g sour jujube seeds, 5g each of longan pulp and polygala root, and an appropriate amount of water. Stew for 2 hours.
Tonify qi, strengthen the spleen, nourish the heart, and calm the spirit: 16oz pork ribs or half a chicken, 30g Fushen, 15g each of astragalus root and atractylodes, 10g ginseng, and an appropriate amount of water. Stew or simmer for 2 hours.
Strengthen the spleen, dispel dampness, calm the spirit, and aid sleep: 16oz pork bones, 50g Fushen, 25g each of coix seeds, red lotus seeds, lily bulbs, and longan pulp, plus an appropriate amount of water. Stew or simmer for 2 hours.
Strengthen the spleen, secure the essence, calm the heart, and soothe the spirit: 16oz pork ribs, 30g each of Fushen and Chinese yam, 20g fox nuts, half a dried tangerine peel, and an appropriate amount of water. Stew or simmer for 2 hours.
30g Fushen, 15g codonopsis root (or astragalus root), 5 red dates (pitted), and 10g goji berries. Add an appropriate amount of water and stew or simmer for 2 hours.
Note: If you have a spleen and stomach deficiency with coldness, add dried ginger. Do not use if you have yin deficiency with excessive internal heat.

Shipping Issues
