Astragalus is also known as Northern astragalus, Bei qi, and Huang qi.The dried root of the leguminous plants Mongolian astragalus or membranous astragalus.A perennial herb and a qi-tonifying medicinal herb.
Sweet in nature and slightly warm; enters the spleen and lung meridians.
According to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, astragalus is believed to replenish qi and raise yang, secure the exterior and stop sweating, promote urination and reduce swelling, generate fluids and nourish blood, move stagnation and unblock impediments, support the discharge of toxins and pus, help close sores and promote tissue regeneration, enhance immunity, regulate metabolism, protect the cardiovascular system, reduce fatigue, and provide antioxidant benefits.
Primarily treats all conditions involving qi deficiency and blood depletion; it may be used for yang qi deficiency, fatigue, poor appetite and loose stools, sinking middle qi, chronic diarrhea and rectal prolapse, blood in the stool and uterine bleeding, spontaneous sweating due to exterior deficiency (daytime), edema, internal-heat thirst, blood-deficiency sallow complexion, hemiplegia, rheumatic pain and numbness, abscesses that are slow to rupture, chronic ulcers that are slow to heal, and lung-deficiency cough.
Treats spleen qi and kidney deficiency with fatigue, weakness, poor appetite, and loose stools; may be used alone or together withGinsengand used synergistically.

Wellness tips
Fangji Astragalus Decoction is primarily used for rheumatism and edema: fangji 30 g, astragalus 15 g, prepared licorice root 6 g, atractylodes 9 g, plus fresh ginger, jujubes, and an appropriate amount of water; decoct and take.
Primarily used for frequent urination, kidney deficiency, and similar conditions: steep or boil prepared polygonatum and goji berries, 5–10 g each, in water, or add them to meat soup while stewing. (nourishes yin, tonifies kidney yang, and benefits essence and blood)
Primarily for three groups of people: those with insufficient qi and blood, cold constitutions or weak spleen and stomach: astragalus 12 g, angelica root 6 g, dried red date slices 6 g, 3 slices of dried ginger, and an appropriate amount of water (meat slices and salt may be added); boil for about 30 minutes.
