Other names for Chinese raspberry fruit include wupaozi, xiaotuopan, leipaozi, shanpaozi, and others. It is the dried fruit of Rubus chingii, a plant in the rose family, and closely resembles dried raspberries (also called redberries). Genuine Chinese raspberry fruit is cone-shaped overall, with a diameter of approximately 5-12 mm. Its surface is yellowish-green or light brown, with a rounded, blunt tip and a depression at the base. The remaining calyx leaves (thick and turned outward) are brown. When picked up, it feels light but is relatively hard and not easy to crush (raspberries crumble when lightly pinched). It has a mild aroma and a slightly sour, astringent taste.
