This productis the dried, immature fruit of bitter orange, a plant in the citrus family, and is used in traditional Chinese medicine to regulate qi.When used raw, it has a pungent, drying nature, while after stir-frying, “it retains the ability of Fructus Aurantii to regulate qi and open the chest. The heat from stir-frying and the wheat bran temper its harsh, drying nature, making its effects gentler and longer-lasting, while adding a protective quality that harmonizes the stomach, strengthens the spleen, and does not impair healthy qi.” It is particularly suitable for older adults, children, and patients with chronic stomach conditions who have a weak constitution for long-term health maintenance.

It regulates qi, relieves middle-jiao stagnation, moves stagnation and reduces distension,strengthens the spleen and harmonizes the stomach, and transforms phlegm and relieves focal distension. It is commonly used for:
①Liver qi stagnation with distending pain in the chest and hypochondria: Frequent low mood, suppressed anger, a tendency to sigh, a feeling of chest tightness or shortness of breath, or distending pain beneath the ribs (the hypochondriac region). It is often used with Bupleurum, white peony root, and cyperus (as in the classic formula Chai Hu Shu Gan Tang).
②Spleen and Stomach qi stagnation with epigastric and abdominal distension and fullness: Chronic gastritis or indigestion in which the abdomen and stomach become uncomfortably distended after eating only a small amount, accompanied by belching, nausea, and poor appetite. Although the abdomen feels distended, massaging or pressing it provides relief (pressure is preferred).It is often used with aucklandia root, amomum fruit, and atractylodes.
③Phlegm obstruction with rebellious qi and focal distension and oppression in the chest and diaphragm: A sensation that a mass of qi or phlegm is stuck below the pit of the stomach; it cannot be spit out or swallowed, and feels neither hard nor painful when pressed, but causes persistent oppression, often accompanied by coughing and phlegm.It is often used with platycodon (as in Jie Geng Zhi Ke Tang).
④Prolapse of internal organs due to sinking from qi deficiency: Such as uterine prolapse, gastroptosis, or rectal prolapse due to chronic diarrhea, accompanied by a sensation of downward heaviness in the abdomen.
