White Poria is also known as Poria, Yunnan Poria,Fuling and other names.It is the dried sclerotium of the fungus Poria cocos in the Polyporaceae family, and is traditionally used to strengthen the spleen and promote water metabolism and dampness elimination。
Flavor: Sweet and bland; neutral in nature; associated with the heart, lungs, spleen and kidneys.
Traditionally believed to dry dampness and strengthen the spleen, promote urination and reduce swelling, calm the heart and soothe the mind, clear heat and detoxify, and brighten the complexion. It may be used for difficulty urinating, edema and abdominal fullness, phlegm retention with coughing and wheezing, sore throat, vomiting, poor appetite due to spleen deficiency, diarrhea, seminal emission and cloudy urine,palpitations and restlessness, insomnia, forgetfulness and mental unease.
Wellness Tips 《Classic Spleen-Strengthening and Dampness-Removing Soup》
①4oz lean meat slices, 15g each of Poria, white lotus seeds, fox nuts and Chinese yam; simmer gently in an appropriate amount of water until reduced by half, then season to taste. Note: You may omit the lean meat and add brown sugar for flavor.
②Half a chicken, 30g five-finger fig root, 20g Poria and 15g aged white atractylodes; simmer in an appropriate amount of water for about 3 hours.
③500g pork bones, 30g kapok flowers, 30g white hyacinth beans, 30g red dates, 50g Poria, 30g adzuki beans, 30g coix seeds, 100g carrots, 1 ear of corn, a few slices of ginger; simmer in an appropriate amount of water for about 3 hours.
④500g pork bones, 20g mulberry root bark, 50g Poria, 100g carrots, 2 honey dates; simmer in an appropriate amount of water for about 3 hours.
⑤Half a chicken, 8oz ribs, 24oz winter melon with skin, 10g lotus leaf, 50g Poria, 30g each of adzuki beans and coix seeds, half a dried tangerine peel, simmer in an appropriate amount of water for about 3 hours.
According to the Ming Dynasty work Correct Tradition of Medicine, Six Gentlemen Soup is traditionally used to replenish qi, strengthen the spleen, dry dampness and resolve phlegm.
Ginseng, white atractylodes and Poria, 9g each; 6g honey-fried licorice, 3g dried tangerine peel, 4.5g pinellia, 2 red dates and 3 slices of ginger. Decoction in water and drink.Take 1 dose daily, divided into 2 warm servings.
【Indications】Spleen and stomach qi deficiency with phlegm-dampness, such as poor appetite, loose stools, chest and epigastric fullness, nausea and vomiting, sallow complexion, cough with abundant phlegm, and other symptoms.
