Forsythia Fruit is also known as yellow-flower stem, yellow Shoudan, green forsythia fruit, yellow forsythia fruit, and mature forsythia fruit. It is the dried fruit of plants in the Forsythia genus of the Oleaceae family. The fruit is long and egg-shaped, slightly flattened, and 1–2.5 centimeters long. Its surface has longitudinal wrinkles of varying depth and raised small spots. It has a pointed tip, a fruit-stalk scar at the base, and a hard texture. It is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for clearing heat and detoxifying, and is known as the “holy medicine for sores.” It is often used to make infused water or decoctions, soups, and porridge.
It is bitter in taste and slightly cold in nature, and enters the Lung, Heart, and Small Intestine meridians.
It is believed to clear heat and detoxify, reduce swelling and dissipate nodules, disperse wind-heat, promote urination and relieve painful urinary difficulty, and protect the liver and internal organs. It is traditionally used for wind-heat colds, including fever, headache, cough, and sore throat; the early stages of warm diseases; high fever with irritability and thirst; abscesses, boils, and sores; skin abscesses; mastitis; tuberculous lymphadenitis; scrofula and phlegm nodules; painful, difficult urination due to heat; and tumor suppression.
Differences Between Green Forsythia Fruit and Mature Forsythia Fruit
The Chinese Pharmacopoeia records two types of forsythia fruit: green forsythia fruit and mature forsythia fruit (yellow forsythia fruit). Both are the dried fruits of plants in the Forsythia genus of the Oleaceae family. Their medicinal effects are similar, but their chemical constituents differ, so they have somewhat different primary uses.
Green Forsythia Fruit: The fruit is harvested before maturity, while it is still green, then steamed and sun-dried. Dark green or brownish-green fruit that has not split open is preferred. Because it contains much higher levels of forsythiaside and volatile oils than mature forsythia fruit, it is better for clearing heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling, and dissipating nodules. It is traditionally used for externally contracted wind-heat, abscesses, boils, and sores.
Mature Forsythia Fruit: The fruit is harvested after reaching natural maturity and sun-dried. Light or dark yellow-brown fruit that is light in weight and split open is preferred. Because it is harvested later, its cooling nature is milder and it is less irritating to the stomach. It also contains more phillygenin than green forsythia fruit, so it is better for venting heat to the exterior and promoting urination to relieve painful urinary difficulty. It is traditionally used for painful, difficult urination due to heat and damp-heat jaundice.

Shipping Issues
Don't worry! All orders we ship include shipping insurance. If you do not receive your order or the items arrive severely damaged and unusable, please contact us so we can submit a claim on your behalf.
