Coin herb (Lysimachia christinae), also known as small-leaf coin herb, Herba Lysimachiae, Dui Zu Cao, and Bian Di Huang, is the dried whole herb of Lysimachia christinae, a plant in the primrose family. It is a medicinal herb that clears heat, promotes urination, and alleviates jaundice.
It has a sweet and salty taste and is slightly cold in nature. It enters the liver, gallbladder, kidney, and urinary bladder meridians.
It promotes urination and alleviates jaundice, facilitates urination and relieves strangury, reduces swelling, and detoxifies. It is used for damp-heat jaundice, gallbladder distension and hypochondriac pain, urinary stones, heat strangury, painful and difficult urination, carbuncles, boils, swelling, sores, and venomous insect or snake bites.
【Coin Herb】VS【Guan Coin Herb】
The names differ by only one character, but these are not plants from the same botanical source. Both herbs are included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, which also carefully distinguishes their functions and indications:
