Astragalus is one of the most common herbs that is naturally prone to bugs—since it is a natural plant grown in wild mountains and open fields, this is completely unavoidable. For details on how to prevent and manage bugs, please refer to the "FAQs" at the bottom of our webpage.

【Introduction】

Wild astragalus mostly grows in natural mountains and wilderness. Due to the lack of human intervention during its growth, its growth cycle is usually much longer, resulting in a higher concentration of active beneficial ingredients. Influenced by factors such as natural soil, water supply, and growing years, it is normal for the core of some root slices to appear dry or hollow. Because of its truly natural growth characteristics and highly limited annual yield, it has become increasingly popular among traditional wellness and healthy-eating enthusiasts in recent years.

Astragalus, also known as Bei Huang Qi or Bei Qi, is the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus var. mongholicus or Astragalus membranaceus, plants in the Leguminosae family. It is one of the most widely used vital energy-boosting herbs for daily tea brewing and soup stewing, primarily targeting general fatigue, weak constitution, and blood depletion.

【Chinese Medicine Properties】

1. Natural: Sweet.

2. Properties: Slightly warm, suitable for most body constitutions.

3. Target: Enters the lung and spleen systems.

【Core Efficacy】

1. Boosting vital energy and lifting Yang: Greatly tonifies the vital energy of the spleen and lungs, supporting digestive vital energy and preventing organ prolapse.

2. Strengthening body defense and stopping abnormal sweating: Strengthens the body's protective energy and firms up the body's exterior defense, effectively reducing excessive daytime sweating caused by a weak constitution.

3. Promoting urination to reduce swelling: Pushes water metabolism by boosting vital energy, achieving a natural diuretic effect to clear fluid retention and puffiness.

4. Promoting fluid production and nourishing blood: Vital energy naturally generates both body fluids and blood, making it ideal for relieving fluid depletion and a pale, sallow complexion caused by lack of energy.

5. Accelerating wound healing and tissue regeneration: Assists the body's natural defensive energy, pushing out trapped impurities from within, while promoting healthy skin healing and new tissue growth.

【Applications and Symptoms】

1. Spleen and stomach vital energy deficiency, middle qi sagging: Treats general weariness, lack of physical strength, poor appetite, and loose stools caused by weak digestion; also targets internal organ sagging (such as stomach sagging, uterine sagging, or rectal sagging) and chronic diarrhea with rectal sagging.

Best Pairing: Commonly paired with Ginseng, Codonopsis root, Cimicifuga rhizome, and Bupleurum root.

2. Lung vital energy deficiency, weak defense with spontaneous sweating: For individuals who catch colds easily, experience shortness of breath or shallow breathing due to weak lung energy; or face frequent daytime sweating even without activity due to a weak body defense system.

Best Pairing: Commonly paired with Ginseng, White Atractylodes rhizome, Ledebouriella root, Aster root, and Schisandra berry.

3. Insufficient vital energy and blood, stubborn sores or slow-healing wounds: Used when deep skin breakouts or sores have formed fluid but are difficult to break down due to low energy and blood supply, or when wounds remain open for a long time with slow skin recovery.

4. Energy-deficiency fluid retention, sluggish urination: Primarily targets facial or limb puffiness and swelling caused by weak spleen function failing to process body moisture, or general body heaviness.

Best Pairing: Commonly paired with Stephania root, White Atractylodes rhizome, and Poria.

5. Mobility issues due to energy deficiency and blood stasis (stroke recovery support): Used for a lack of physical strength to push healthy blood flow after a stroke, which leads to numbness in limbs, facial drooping, or facial asymmetry.

Best Pairing: Commonly paired with Angelica root, Sichuan Lovage rhizome, Earthworm, and Safflower.

6. Excessive thirst and dryness (diabetes support): Used for intense thirst, excessive drinking, and frequent urination caused by a dual deficiency of both vital energy and Yin.

Best Pairing: Commonly paired with Chinese Yam, Anemarrhena rhizome, and Trichosanthes root.

【Modern Pharmacological Actions】

Rich in astragalus polysaccharides, astragalus saponins, and flavonoid compounds, it also provides the following benefits:

1. Deep immune defense support: Significantly enhances the body's deep immune defense system, promotes healthy antibody formation, and improves overall natural resilience (highly popular for cold seasonal prevention).

2. Cardiovascular protection: Strengthens heart function, improves heart muscle contractility, dilates coronary blood channels to protect oxygen-depleted muscles, and offers a two-way balancing effect on blood pressure (helps lift low blood pressure or supports lowering high blood pressure).

3. Anti-oxidation and healthy aging: Extends healthy cellular lifespans, clears age-accelerating free radicals, and helps fight physical fatigue, oxygen deprivation, and environmental radiation.

4. Kidney and liver protection: Helps reduce urinary protein and supports healthy renal functions; also promotes liver protein synthesis and prevents the depletion of healthy liver energy stores.
