Raw and roasted sour jujube seeds have essentially the same effects, both calming the heart and soothing the mind. Raw seeds are cooling in nature and are suitable for insomnia caused by yin deficiency with heat. Roasted seeds are warm in nature and are suitable for palpitations, poor appetite, and excessive sweating associated with deficiency of the heart and spleen.
Sour jujube seeds are also known as jujube seeds, jujube kernels, and mountain jujube seeds. They are the seeds of the sour jujube, a plant in the buckthorn family. They are used as a calming and sleep-supporting herb and are praised as the miraculous “Eastern sleep fruit.”
Records dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties indicate that wild sour jujube resources are mainly distributed around the Taihang Mountains in China. Sour jujube seeds produced in Neiqiu County, Xingtai, Hebei, are known for their high medicinal quality, attractive color, large, plump seeds, and lack of impurities. They are ovate or elliptical, deep purplish-red or purplish-brown, with a smooth, glossy surface and a naturally bright color. One side is convex and the other flat, with a raised, fine, dense ridge in the middle of the flat side. One end has a sunken, linear hilum, while the other has a small protrusion. The area has been designated by the state as the “Hometown of Chinese Wild Sour Jujube Seeds,” and the product is commonly called Xing jujube seeds. After the fruit is harvested when ripe, it undergoes four processing steps: “peeling, sun-drying, crushing, and screening out the kernels.” It may be used raw or lightly dry-roasted over low heat until it puffs up and makes a popping sound; it is ready when the color darkens. It is commonly used to make infused water, decoctions, soups, and porridges.

It is particularly effective at nourishing the heart, tonifying the liver, benefiting the gallbladder, and calming the mind. It is an essential herb for treating restlessness, insomnia with frequent dreaming, and palpitations caused by deficiency of yin and blood. Sour jujube seeds are believed to nourish the liver, calm the heart, soothe the mind, replenish the middle and boost qi, strengthen the muscles and bones, moisten the lungs and nourish yin, warm the middle and promote urination, astringe qi and stop sweating, promote fluid production, enhance the mind and settle fright, and improve hearing and vision, among other effects.
They may be used for vexation and insomnia due to deficiency, palpitations, irritability and thirst, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, cold sweats, frequent waking at night, cold and heat in the chest and abdomen, stagnant pathogenic factors and qi accumulation, soreness in the limbs, dry mouth and tongue, dampness-related painful obstruction, pain above and below the navel, and chronic diarrhea, among other conditions.

Lean pork 100g, poria, and sour jujube seeds 15g each, polygala root 6g, 3 slices of ginger, and an appropriate amount of water. Simmer for 60 minutes and season to taste.

Shipping Issues
