Tortoise shell: Ancient practitioners believed that tortoises lived long lives and were especially nourishing. It is primarily used to nourish yin and subdue yang, benefit the kidneys and strengthen the bones, nourish the blood and support the heart, and stabilize menstruation and stop excessive bleeding.
Softshell turtle shell: Ancient practitioners believed that softshell turtles were fierce and strong, and that their shells were especially effective at firmly resolving hardened masses. It is primarily used to clear heat and relieve steaming sensations, soften hardness and disperse nodules, and invigorate the blood and resolve stasis.
Softshell turtle shell is the dorsal shell of the softshell turtle, a member of the Trionychidae family. It is also called water fish, pond fish, or “wangba.” Only the dorsal shell must be used medicinally (the underside has no medicinal value). It is a yin-nourishing herb.
It has a salty taste, is cold in nature, and enters the Liver meridian. After roasting, its medicinal nature changes from “cold” to “warm.” In traditional Chinese medicine, animal shells are generally roasted before being used medicinally. Roasting enhances their medicinal effects and makes it easier for their active constituents to be released (for example, raw softshell turtle shell is hard, while roasted shell becomes brittle).
It is believed to nourish yin and subdue yang, clear heat and relieve steaming sensations, soften hardness and disperse nodules, invigorate the blood, unblock the meridians, and dispel stasis to promote new growth.
It is commonly used for yin-deficiency fever, steaming bone heat, yin deficiency with hyperactive yang, dizziness and blurred vision, internal stirring of wind due to deficiency, amenorrhea, abdominal masses, and chronic malaria with splenic enlargement. It is also used for hard lumps and masses caused by blood stasis and chest or flank fullness (such as those associated with liver, pancreatic, or breast cancer), malignant sores and ulcerated tissue, and tumors. It may also be used for hemiplegia, facial distortion, numbness on one side of the body, slurred speech, and migraines caused by stroke.

Shipping Issues
